鍋爐給水由補充水和冷凝蒸汽組成。對於補充水,許多工廠利用原水,需要用澄清劑,砂濾器和混合介質過濾器的組合進行預處理。預處理水接著藉由反滲透膜,脫礦質劑,電極離子發生器,超過濾或其他系統進行進一步處理。最終的低電導率超純水提供最佳鍋爐效能所需的水準。
 
使用純淨的冷凝水代替補充水可減少化學品和能源的用量,進而為廠區提供巨大的價值。然而,冷凝物不可避免地會涉及如冷凝器洩漏而導致蒸汽循環污染的風險。不良冷凝物回到鍋爐可能會導致傳熱效率降低,增加排污量,以及相關的水﹑能源和化學品成本。監測冷凝水可能及早發現冷凝器洩漏,並提供鍋爐水處理效能的總括資訊。
