TOC analyzers measure the amount of organic compounds contained in a water sample. Organic carbon-containing compounds can either be dissolved in water or exist in water as undissolved, suspended material, or liquid. This organic matter can enter water naturally and through man-made sources/processes.

Examples of organic matter are plant or animal based or synthetic substances containing carbon and other elements defining organic compounds. Inorganic matter is comprised of mineral compounds that may or may not contain carbon.

水中總有機碳分析儀 用於測量水樣本中有機化合物的濃度。含碳有機化合物可以溶解於水中，也可以以不溶性、懸浮或液態存在於水中。這些有機物可以透過自然途徑和人為途徑/過程進入水體。
